NoHype Audio products:

  • Design: Our products are designed "In House" for studio and/or stage use. Years of experience in manufacturing help avoiding the pitfalls common in today's low cost market. Often innovative, our products are built to last, designed to offer the best possible performance while keeping today's typical budget limitations in mind.
  • Quality: We have established extensive QC throughout the manufacturing process. Each unit is partially assembled and individually tested in our Belgian workshop before final inspection and packing. Automated processes are extremely limited. We source from suppliers located in various parts of the world, based on our requirements.
  • Affordability: Clever design, purchasing and packaging yield attractive prices, however price concerns always come after high performance has been established and proven. We keep a short path between the supply chain and the end user often resulting in much lower end user prices than anticipated.
Thanks for keeping these important points in mind when ordering:

  • PLEASE NOTE: we can and will only ship to the address supplied by Paypal (when paying through PP) so please double check before submitting your PP order.
  • IMPORTANT EU VAT NOTE: From July 1st 2021, Paypal will add the relevant VAT amount at checkout, it depends on the DESTINATION country. As before, no VAT (EU sale tax) is due for customers located outside of the EU, or with a valid EU VAT N (contact us for VAT void purchases).
  • IMPORTANT BREXIT NOTE: we currently cannot process orders under 170 of declared value going into the UK.
  • IMPORTANT: Paypal decided (March 2020) that fees would not be refunded when a payment is returned/refunded to the buyer. So make sure you will not have buyer remorse if you don't want to lose around 4% on your refund... we have no power over this and cannot pay you back the Paypal fee when refunding your payment. Thanks.

  • NOHYPE AUDIO SRM-1:

The SRM-1 is a stereo ribbon microphone based again on LRM Series user comments and requests. Released in September 2019, it offers a linear response with a smooth top end, gently tapering off. The mic's response takes EQ well so proximity compensation and top end manipulation sound natural with most EQ's. The size and weight have been kept to a minimum to allow for easy, safe placement. The included shockmount screws on the mic for a firm, secure hold with good isolation from mic-stand transmitted noise. Each channel has a symmetrical Bi-directional/Figure-8 Polar Pattern with identical front & back responses. The ribbon motor is a proprietary design and the output transformer wound to our spec allowing the output impedance to be around 250 Ohms nominal (measured between pins 2 and 3). Signal/noise ratio is adequate for up to mid-distance work, as most mid to high end ribbons allow, or longer distance if the overall SPL is high enough. Typical setups would be drums Overheads, Room, main stereo pair in X/Y or M/S or section (amps, brass, strings) spot stereo pair. Sold with EU-made 5-meter Sommer/Neutrik splitter cable (5 pin to 2 x 3 pin) / extension cable, soft padded protection bag and shockount. As usual, ribbon motor QC, final assembly and testing are performed in our workshop in Belgium.
NOTE: the current version has white dot inserts on each motor's front lobe (see photo). Should you prefer a version without those please Email us before ordering.

      Versions:

  • NOHYPE AUDIO LRM-2b:

Light Ribbon Microphone. New version of the LRM-2, released in Nov. 2018. The LRM-2 was originally based on the LRM-1 but upgraded in several ways. The LRM-2b goes further with higher sensitivity (at the motor/before the transformer) and a symmetrical, pure Bidirectionnal/Figure-8 Polar Pattern while the overall tone has been retained - yet with an even flatter response. This is a great choice for Classical music or any track needing a flat but smooth response with a symetrical Fig-8 pattern. Sold with soft padded protection bag, also available with Lundahl output transfomer. Shockmount included. Ribbon tensionning, final assembly and testing performed in our workshop in Belgium. The current version of the LRM-2b has a new shockmount design with stronger hardware.

  • Specifications:
    • Typical frequency response LRM-2b ("Stock"):
    • Light Ribbon Microphone: Long ribbon motor in a relatively light and small one-piece body protected by a strong grille.
    • Integral and removable shockmount.
    • Response based on the vintage RCA 44BX with improved high frequency response; more linear than the LRM-1.
    • Frequency response: 30 to 18,000Hz +/- 3 dBs.
    • Polar pattern: Symmetrical pure Figure-8 (nulls at 90 and 270 ) polar response.
    • Sensitivity: -55dB (0dB=1v/Pa) +/- 1 dB at 0 angle (front).
    • Impedance: 250 Ohms nominal/leg (500 Ohms nominal between Pin 2 & 3).
    • Max. SPL (1% THD @1000Hz): 135dB.
    • Fitted with removable EU size metal stand thread adapter (default USA size without adapter).
    • Size: 175mm x 48mm (exc. Shockmount)
    • Weight: 580g.
    • Shipping/packed Weight: 1300g.
    • Available with our "stock" transformer or Lundahl transformer.
    • Free stereo-matching when buying pairs or more, please inquire.
    • Ribbon tensionning, final assembly and testing in our workshop.
    • Please typically allow one more working day for Lundahl option if not in stock.
  • Differences with the (discontinued) LRM-1:
    • Smaller size.
    • Lighter weight.
    • More solid, stable and less resonant one piece body.
    • Integral (but removable) shockmount.
    • Slightly different response, mainly flatter top end and more open low end.
  • Differences with the (discontinued) LRM-2:
    • Redesigned motor with higher output and symmetrical (front=back) response.
    • Redesigned, sturdier shockmount.
    • Reduced manufacturing tolerances.
    • Flatter frequency response.
  • Lundahl or stock?
The Lundahl transformer option is typically chosen for more critical applications like classical recording. For Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz... the stock transfo is usually preferred for its added midrange colour.

  • NOHYPE AUDIO STEREO ACCESSORIES:

Both items are sold separately. Released in July 2019, this stereo coupler is used to clamp together / secure two LRM-2(b) microphones. Sold separately, the stereo bar provides good, stable support and proper spacing for a pair of LRM-2b's.

  • Overview:
    • The coupler is used to clamp together / secure two LRM-2(b) microphones.
    • The bar takes the LRM-2b shockmounts and supports them, mounted on any sturdy US or EU thread mic stand. Make sure your mic stand is solid and can take the weight. Sandbags are recommended.
    • Both items are sold separately. The second image shows the coupler mating two LRM-2 mics, mounted to the stereo bar.
  • Use:
    • Make sure that the clasps are open.
    • Pull/stretch the coupler wide open.
    • Install the coupler between both LRM-2(b) tops, close the clasps.
    • Vertical mounting will be quite stable but horizontal setups may still lead to some droop if left hanging over long periods so please check during breaks if the mics aren't slowly slipping.
    • The bar is traightforward in assembly and use. It can be used vertically or horizontally.
  • Specifications:
    • All metal construction
    • Padding to avoid damage to the mic body
    • Coupler weight: 35g
  • Caution:
    • The coupler is not designed to hold the mics, it's meant to keep both mics in line, firmly attached to one another to allow precise, stable positionning in coincident setups. Make sure that each mic is properly mounted on a solid, firm base: either an individual mic stand, or its own point on a stereo bar.
    • The coupler is designed for the LRM-2(b), or similar weight microphones. Heavier microphones will possibly tilt the mic stand and most likely crash down below! Most mounting bars can take the weight but your mic stand probably won't. Always make sure your mic stand can handle the weight.
    • Sandbags on the Tripod feet is a good idea as is a counterweight on the boom (ie. the counterweigth boom from K&M). The bar itself is no guarantee that the assembly will not tip over a mic stand: make sure the mic stand is firm and stable.

    Notes:

      On the frequency curves shown:

We prefer to show 1/6th Octave curves in 1 dB/line resolution rather than 1 Octave, smoothed curves at lower resolution, as they show more information. These are not perfectly accurate curves but better, more telling curves will soon be published. Please keep it in mind when comparing with other mics data.
